Contemporary Drum

Karl Côté

Karl is a Métis of Algonquin and Mohawk heritage. Ever since he can remember he has felt a strong connection to Mother Earth, and at the age of 12 he decided he would spend his life protecting and cleaning up the environment. He pursued his goal by studying environmental engineering.

Since 1995, he has managed numerous environmental training and site remediation projects in over 40 First Nation, Inuit and Métis communities throughout Canada.

With the birth of his first child in 2005 he reduced his travelling and started getting involved with the Montreal urban Aboriginal community. He did volunteer work for the Native Alliance of Quebec for 2 years and since 2009 he is on the Board of Directors of the Rising Sun Childcare Centre, the first daycare for Aboriginal children in Montreal.

He started singing on the powwow drum at the Montreal Native Friendship Centre in 2011 and then joined the Buffalo Hat Singers in 2012.
